Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, I began my interest in public and environmental health by attending the University of Louisville and working as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for Louisville's trauma emergency room and the emergency helicopter service. Eventually, I came to realize that I am more interested in public and environmental education rather than serving in a hospital.
Fuelled by a curiosity for the world, I sought opportunities to broaden my horizons. This led me to travel and work in various locations, including Land Between the Lakes, Washington D.C., Estes Park in Colorado, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Each destination exposed me to unique cultures, diverse landscapes, and memorable experiences.
In 2001, my life took a transformative turn when I met my now-wife, Julia Hunter, during my stay in North Carolina. Together, we embarked on a journey of love, growth, and shared adventures. Julia's amazing son, Truman, became an integral part of our journey, adding another dimension of joy and fulfillment to our lives.
A decade later, our family expanded once more when we had the privilege of meeting 13-year-old Simeon, who not only captured our hearts but also became our beloved son. Witnessing the growth and development of our children has been a profound and rewarding experience.
Outside of my professional pursuits, I relish in exploring new places, seeking inspiration from various landscapes, and expressing myself through creative outlets.
At home, I am surrounded by the love and companionship of our two hairless dogs, DaVinci and Einstein, and our spirited calico cat named Madam Curie.
I have a Master's degree in Geography/Environmental Planning from Southern Illinois University and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Louisville. During my studies, I gained expertise in medical geography, forestry management, water quality management, air quality management, environmental and public health education and healthcare policy.
